The Pearl Theater presents a free holiday sing along for the
entire family with performances by Swingin'
on a Star: the Bonners Ferry Youth Choir and Over
the Moon: the Bonners Ferry Youth Dance Company.
Members of "Swingin'
on a Star”, directed
by Victoria Blake Thompson, will lead the audience in
favorite carols and holiday songs as well as perform several
pieces they have been preparing for the season. The audience
will also be treated to performances by "Over
the Moon" dance
company, choreographed by Irina Riverman, who have been busy
rehearsing since September at the Pearl.
This event is free to the public; however donations will be
accepted to fund the newly formed scholarship program for
students of both the choir and dance programs at the Pearl
Theater. Both groups are auditioned ensembles (ages 8-18
for choir; ages 10-18 for dance). The upcoming winter
session begins in January and runs through April.

OVER 100 LOCAL SINGERS FEATURED IN THIS YEAR'S COMMUNITY CHOIR
With the Bonners Ferry Community Choir and
the Bonners Ferry Youth Choir "Swingin' on a Star" combined in
song, over 100 voices will bring our community "We're Not That
Far From Bethlehem", the 2013 annual Christmas Concert.
Performances are Friday Dec. 20th at 7:30 pm and Sunday Dec.
22nd at 3 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church, just off of Highway 95
on Cody Street. Entrance is by donation with the suggested
amount being $10 for adults and $5 for students.
This is conductor, Victoria Blake Thompson's 18th year
conducting these choirs. She was preceded by Barb Nelson, who
now accompanies the choir, for another 18 years. And, before
either of them were on the scene, Earl Erickson was the
conductor. Needless to say, it is a long term Bonners Ferry
tradition to bring in the holidays with this concert. A
reception with with cookies and punch follows the concert each
year allowing friends and neighbors to gather in celebration.
This year's concert is dedicated to the beautiful memory of
Glenda McCalmant. Glenda is the only person who sang in the
choir every year since its inception. She will always be
remembered for her contagious laughter, her enthusiasm, and her
The concert features familiar carols as well as new Christmas
songs. The arrangements vary enormously in style and cultural
origin but are centered on the theme of a personal journey to
the Bethlehem of one's own heart. The desire for peace,
goodwill, true community and love abounding which draw humanity
on the journey are ever present, as much today as in years gone
